Privacy Policy
Effective July 24, 2026
Overview
This Privacy Policy explains how MAVE — Muslim Communities Engaged (“MAVE,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and discloses information when you visit this website, request Muslim Advocacy Day updates, use our representative finder, join a community group, or otherwise interact with our civic engagement services (collectively, the “Service”).
Information You Give Us
The information we collect depends on how you use the Service.
- Muslim Advocacy Day updates. We collect your first and last name, email address, home ZIP code, and whether you may need bus transportation from Northern Virginia.
- Representative finder. We collect your first and last name, email address, phone number, and home street address.
- Messages and requests. We collect the information you include when you contact MAVE or ask us to correct or delete your information.
Requesting Muslim Advocacy Day updates or joining an advocacy group may reveal information about your civic, political, or religious interests. We use that information only for the purposes described in this policy.
Information We Create or Receive
- District and location information. From an address submitted to the representative finder, we may derive city, state, ZIP code, approximate coordinates, legislative districts, and the officials representing those districts.
- Engagement records. We may record the forms you submitted, the updates you requested, and whether and when you clicked through to a district WhatsApp group.
- Technical information. Our hosting and security providers may process IP address, browser and device information, request timestamps, referring pages, and diagnostic or security logs when you use the Service.
How We Use Information
- To notify you when Muslim Advocacy Day registration, training information, and bus reservations become available.
- To identify your Virginia legislative districts and representatives.
- To email your representative results and available district-group links.
- To connect you with civic engagement opportunities and community groups you requested.
- To respond to questions, privacy requests, and support needs.
- To understand participation in the aggregate and improve MAVE programs.
- To operate, secure, troubleshoot, and prevent misuse of the Service.
- To comply with law and protect MAVE, our community, and others.
We may also send internal operational emails, such as signup summaries, to authorized MAVE staff. Those messages are not sent to the public.
Email Choices
The representative-results email is sent in response to your use of that tool. Muslim Advocacy Day emails are sent because you requested event updates. Other MAVE advocacy or community emails will identify MAVE as the sender and provide a way to unsubscribe when required.
You can opt out of nonessential emails through the unsubscribe link in an email or by contacting us. We may still send messages needed to respond to a request you made.
When We Disclose Information
We do not sell personal information, and we do not disclose it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We disclose information only as needed for the following purposes:
- Service providers. Vendors process information on our behalf to host, maintain, secure, and communicate through the Service.
- MAVE personnel. Authorized staff, board members, or volunteers may access information when needed to coordinate the event, respond to requests, or support civic engagement activities.
- Legal and safety reasons. We may disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, enforce our terms, prevent fraud or abuse, or protect the rights and safety of MAVE and others.
- Organizational changes. Information may be transferred as part of a merger, reorganization, or transfer of MAVE operations, subject to appropriate protections.
Service Providers and External Platforms
- Google Maps Platform supports address autocomplete. Google may receive the address text you enter and technical information about your request.
- U.S. Census Bureau Geocoder receives an address from the representative finder so legislative districts can be identified.
- Neon hosts the database used to store form submissions and related records.
- Cloudflare hosts, delivers, and helps secure the website.
- Resend delivers representative results and other emails sent by the Service.
- WhatsApp / Meta hosts community groups that you choose to join. Once you leave MAVE's site, Meta's own policies govern that activity.
- PayPal processes donations made through the external donation page. MAVE does not receive your full payment-card or bank-account details from PayPal.
External providers process information under their own terms and privacy policies in addition to any commitments they make to MAVE.
Cookies and Similar Technologies
MAVE does not currently use advertising or audience-measurement cookies on this Service. The Service and its providers may use essential storage, network identifiers, or similar technologies to deliver features, remember necessary state, prevent abuse, and protect the site. External features such as Google Maps, WhatsApp, and PayPal may use their own technologies under their respective policies.
Retention
We retain information for as long as reasonably needed to deliver requested event updates, provide civic engagement services, maintain participation records, resolve disputes, meet legal obligations, and protect the Service. Retention periods vary by the type of record. We may keep de-identified or aggregated information that no longer identifies you.
Your Choices and Requests
Depending on where you live and applicable law, you may ask to access, correct, or delete personal information we maintain about you. You may also withdraw from nonessential communications and leave a WhatsApp group at any time.
Send a request to info@movechamber.org. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request. Some information may be retained when required by law or when a limited record is necessary for security, recordkeeping, or honoring an opt-out.
Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information. No online service or storage system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children
The online Service is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information through it from children under 16. A parent or guardian who believes a child submitted information may contact us to request its deletion.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the Service or our practices change. We will post the revised policy here and update the effective date. If a change materially affects how we use information already collected, we will provide additional notice when appropriate.
